Hey there, so there are two concepts here: 1) you can have a control perform two functions by having it be the supercontrol of two controls. The supercontrol then does nothing except activate. 2) You might need Channel Changers to change which device your MD controls are talking to. http://mididesigner.com/channel-changer-feature-explained and http://mididesigner.com/wiki/doku.php/manual:chapter-relationships-2
Great - thanks, I'l give that a go.  I'm currently using a 'hidden controls' page to put all these subcontrols on away from my user pages - is that the best way to do it?
Yes, that's the best way. You *could* use Pedalboards, but a separate page is much simpler (under the hood). Also note that you could create a separate Page Bank and put your page in there.

Also: email your layout to yourself often for backup. It's the easiest way at this time, though iTunes backup will backup your MD layouts too. Thanks!
