I tested in both 2.333 and Pro X and don't see any behavior difference between for either item.

  1. In both versions, make similar on a panel created new instances of the controls, not copies.  Note: make similar of a panel does not auto-increment the individual control MIDI settings such as happens for make similar of an individual control.
  2. There was no make similar of a panel without controls.
However, if you are seeing different behaviour, please upload the layout so I can research further.

I haven't tried doing this in the past, so was unaware of this behavior. I was consulting with a new MDP user who was making many similar panels with controls and found this behavior isn't what he was expecting. He wanted similar panels and controls, but not copies of the controls. I will check again and submit the layout.

I have mainly been working in Mac OS using MDPx.

MIDI assignment must be changed in the duplicated panels.

When first duplicating a panel with controls, the duplicate controls have the same MIDI parameters. If MIDI Receive is selected, the controls with activate each other, appearing to behave as Copies. The right answer is to offset the Channel and/or CC values in the duplicate panel(s).

the video will be public at midnight tonight (2/13).

Saw the video about Make Similar for panels on YouTube in 10.2.0. Sent feedback regarding Midi Values are still duplicated and needs to be emphasized they may need to be changed where the feature is explained. My feedback is more extensive.
