MDP2 v2.3300 "more" button animates up and off the screen and "more button menu" will not reappear - MIDI Designer Q&A

Marking this as resolved since we backed off the "more button takedown" from 2.3300. Now you can swipe, but that's in addition to tapping the More Button directly. Thanks.

Covered in the release notes, in the manual update, and a prompt provided on the screen when the app initially loads

----

Other Enhancements

  • On iPad and iPhone, Swipe Up and Swipe Down will no longer interfere with your performance

  • Mac: lots of enhancements and polish including a fix for the glaring window-size issue

  • iPad: finally, a better fix for 3-dots More-button issue since iPadOS 15. Now swipe-down to access More menu

  • Mac, iPad, iPhone: Open layout from Files menu when App is not open is fixed

  • And many smaller enhancements, fixes and under-the-hood changes prepping for the future of MIDI Designer

OK...actually some tiny instructions should be clarified. Post title amended.

The swipe down action MUST start at the very edge of the screen to reveal the uh...MDP2 menu....
I was swiping down with my first touch within the screen and only the BANK indicators animate down...and that looks like something is broken to me after just getting used to bringing the more button down to workaround the apple multitasking ...annoyance.

The reason I wasn't starting the swipe at the edge of the screen was the ... apple multitasking dock might activate as was happening to me previously.

"To preclude accidentally returning to the iPad desktop while performing, the first swipe up in play mode has no action. (the bottom Apple bar will become visible). A second swipe up while the bar is visible will return to the iPad desktop."
I find I MUST touch the apple up arrow bar for the desktop to show...swipe up anywhere else and the apple up arrow button just animates down off screen. Once you have minimized MDP2 one time- a single swipe up will reveal the desktop and minimize MDP2; even after 10 minutes of no use- a single swipe after the first minimize will minimize MDP2.

Further: what is the actual syntax? "more button menu"? "more menu"? "more"? The dialog pop-up reads "more button menu".
Really, the label at the top of the MDP2 menu is "Tools"....
Further, "More button" and "MORE" are still referred to in the MIDI Designer Reference Manual in many places. I suppose it will take some time to amend the manual. What about all the videos? Surely the "More button" is referenced plenty in those too!

As it is now, the decommissioned more button appears upon MDP2 app launch and animates off screen, never to be seen again until the next re-launch. For new users, the whole concept of "more" in MDP2 UI won't mean anything...only legacy users will know about their "more" button menu experiences because the menu's label is "Tools".
Thanks for this comment. You're not wrong and we're testing 2.3310 which backs off the More Button removal. Can we add you to the Beta test, ctreitzell, please?
It would be an honor :-) Do you need me to email you or...? I will be working with MDP2 quite a lot in the coming months
Perfect, thanks, I will add you.

Also note that 2.3310 released last night which re-places the More button (and still allows you to access the “more button menu” from swipe down).

We’re also going to be working hard on MD in the next few months, which is not always the case.

Thanks and thanks JK again for doing the hard job of documenting this moving target. Documentation always lags, even on projects that are much bigger and better-funded. We try!
ctreitzell: Added you, thanks.
