Virtual tap time button?

Hi all, would it be possible to create a virtual tap tempo button if the hardware only support a knob rate button, let ‘s say a tremelo effect. By tapping the button in time the rate would adjust it’s tempo.

Does this question makes sense?

Ha, I was clarifying if this had already been done.
Yes, then it is a suggestion. I read about pedalboards that have tap time ‘on board’ and send it calculated to the delay effect. Delays are cool but temp adjustable mod fx like chorus etc are also interesting.
