That's awesome, gurbz! Great example of practical thinking. I love the videos too!
Thank U! Scream 4 me!
Very cool! Is the re-styled layout available? Are there any directions for getting this working?

I have been able to get your other Katana MDP layout to work, but this one isn't having an effect for me and I am wondering if there is some setup step that I need to do first (such as load a preset that has the slicer in it).
Hi Espiegel123,

Depends: which mdp layout did you get working? The primova?
the one that I got working is this one:

https://mididesigner.com/qa/7333/boss-katana-sysex-editor
That is not mine, it’s from Alan.

Questions: do you have the pink or green layout?
I revised the very green sysex layout, check the downloads section.
Do not forget to hit the big yellow button.
If you still have a problem let me know.

Cheers, Gurbz
Did you get it working ESpiegel123?
Yes. The newer layout works great.
Hi Gurbz,

I am trying to create a layout that will do for the Vox Pedal Wah what the Slicer Template does for the Slicer effect (on the Boss Katana).

You kindly pointed me to snhirsch's Katana midi sysex file and am trying to figure out how to get my wah working by understanding how the slicer works.

As I understand it, when you press the Green/Yellow slicer button, the following buttons are triggered (as they are subcontrols) which sends out their related messages.

If my analysis is right, turning the slicer on by pressing the button does the following:
(In the summary below, I exclude the header bytes --41 00 00 00 00 33 12  -- and checksum for easier reading)

* slicer select (sysex 60 00 01 41 19) (sends message to load slicer in the mod slot of first knob)
*slicer setup (just a super control nothing sent)
** boost off (sysex 60 00 01 30 00) I COULDN"T FIND THIS in the hirsch system guide
** fx1 (sysex 60 00 01 40 01) (B-Range toggle on)
** fx select (sysex 60 00 12 15 01) I COULDN"T FIND THIS in the hirsch system guide. 60 00 12 14 is the highest listed in the series
** cc16 on

Can you explain the Boost Off and FxSelect messages?

Did you figure them out on your own or is there another document that you've found with additional Katana sysex not covered in the hirsch files?

Thanks so much,
Edward

Beanow did some groundbreaking work in uncovering sysex for the katana

Explanation boost/fx:

When using the katana with original software you will find that is NOT possible to use boost and mod (fx1 block) simultaneously.

However it is possible to use boost and fx1 simultaneous but to keep things simple I created here the buttons to have a clear choice, read the beanow docs.

So: you can consciously select boost or mod this way and there is also the fx1 select button: boost or mod.

Same goes for delay AND fx2 section simultaneously.
When you turn the hardwareknob on the katana amp these buttons of commands get active.
Thank you very much for the information and advice. In the version 3 firmware, are boost and fx1 possible at the same time?

I am finding the beanow docs both useful and sometimes difficult to decipher. I am a bit unclear as to how the CC16 switch relates to the other ones.

Any wisdom to share about that?
Yes, simultaneously should not be a problem.

CC16 is total FX1 block ON/OFF, fx1 being boost/mod section (also knob in katana);
CC17 is total FX2 block ON/OFF, fx2 being delay/fx (knob on katana)

So, to activate for example delay you need: CC17, delay_on, select delay from select delay or fx. To doublecheck this you can select fx off.
Is this making sense?
That makes sense. I think I was thrown off by something in the snhirsch docs which sounded like one should use EITHER the CC toggle or the bock on/off.

I am looking forward to being able to control more than one parameter of my favorite effects without using BTS.

Once one has been tweaking params from MDP (including sneaky amps) does saving a preset via the amp's buttons work -- or does saving via the amp's preset buttons only work for the vanilla settings?
Yeah sure. You can save with the hardware buttons.
During rehearsals I use the panel state (no preset 1-8)
Keep in mind that I do not work with bi-directional data, I send only.
Understood about sending. I was thinking that since we are just sending, it will be handy for me to save favorites into the amp so that I can suck them into BTS and save them in the librarian for sharing and future reference.
