How do I get MD to reflect changes to Ableton transport controls?

I have buttons mapped to Automation Arm and Session Record in my MD template, and I have "MIDI receive" turned on, but the buttons do not update their status when I click on the actual buttons on Ableton's transport with my mouse. I also have a slider mapped to control the tempo, and it works as expected: it updates in MD when I adjust the BPM in Ableton. What am I doing wrong?

If you're on Mac you need Snoize MIDI Monitor to figure out the situation. Or on Windows there's MIDI OX. Then you can figure out the MIDI messages you've got and possibly arrive at a solution. Thanks
