Various bugs in Midi Designer Pro 2: Version 2.8.1 Build 170214

Question

This is a list of bugs I have found during my recent development, I am using an iPad Mini 2 (IOS:10.2). One important point is that as it's a mini 'One Big Page' to me is a little one, I therefore operate in OBP+MBT all the time, all these issues may only be present in this mode.

1. Jump to Page - Does not work across banks without breaking the 'OBP+MBT' rules, this makes it very difficult to structure a multi-page project, I think this is crucial for any development that would be for public consumption. This should not be very difficult to test/check.

2. Load - Append Layout, not working as it should ?

Big Page Set and Move Banks Together are set on both projects:

Project 1:

    Bank 1 = B1P1, B1P2, B1P3    # OK
    Bank 5 = B5P1, B5P2, B5P3    # OK

Project 2:

    Bank 1 = B1P1            # OK
    Bank 5 = B5P1            # Ok

Load Project 1 into Project 2 (Append)   

Result: 

    Bank 1 = Project 1 : B1P1, B1P2, B1P3    # OK
    Bank 2 = Blank                # Ok
    Bank 3 = Project 1 : B5P1, B5P2, B5P3    # ??
    Bank 4 = Project 2 : B1P1        # ??
    Bank 5 = Project 2 : B5P2        # ?? 

3.  Big Page Set and Move Banks Together are set:

 Large (Bank 1-5) (Black - Alpha+LED Color far right) Panel does not remain at back, controls hidden.

Workaround: Create 2 panel B1P1+B1P2 this works ok think this is also a OBP+MBT issue.

4. Named Ticks sometimes the tick being edited scrolls up out of view, very annoying when you are the left with a black area and have to scroll down to do the next one.

Niggles:

1. 'Exit Design Mode' button always gets put in the worse possible place, not logical.

I think that's it for now, the 'Jump To Page' issue is the most crucial for me as it means I can't release my project until it is fixed.

Hi Dan,
thanks for the quick response, if you exit design mode the button does not return to the same place (where I left it) I tend to use a corner out of the way, I will keep a closer check on it advise.
I think there is a memory leak somewhere as over time (3hours-ish) the application starts to misbehave, I have had on the odd occasion a memory low warning, but had no other apps running, just thought I would mention it, I haven't lost anywork, just requires a re-load then ok for another session.
The jump to page issue: I have a 'Home Page' at B1P1+B5P1 (OBP+MBT Set) that I need to jump to from other banks (2+6 and 3+7), if set a button to jump to B1P1 it will go to bank 1 page 1 but will not bring up bank 5 page1 this effectively breaks the 'One Big Page+Move Banks Together' the only way to get back into sync is to disable OBP+MBT and re-enable.
I have just tried the following: from the home screen (B1P1+B5P1) I set it to jump to Bank 2 Page 1, only the first page went, the result is B2P1+B5+P1.

Hi Lenny:

1) Interesting idea to have Exit button go to where it last was. Could be a good idea.
2) AFAIK there are leaks in Design Mode, but never in Performance Mode. This will be fixed at some point.

I think maybe the 'Exit Button' starts wandering when memory is getting low, it's not a big problem.

Design Exit Button wandering?! Hmmm... it does get out of the way of the Design Properties pane. Perhaps that's it?

Another day and it's not raining hooray. Decided to do a little more testing to see why I keep getting black action panels, it appears to happen when: you create a control, the action panel appears, press the red dot to sticky/unsticky it, we now have a panel with a green dot, if you now touch the background, the controls blank out, you can get rid of it by pressing the green dot, over time this seems to cause other issues.

But why would you do that ?

 I always tend to move the box from it's starting position to a more convenient one, I have been doing a lot of work tick editing, the plus button is very near the border of the box, so on occasion I miss and probably land on the edge of the and the background, then the box blacks out, have reproduced quite easily with new control.

Suggestion:

Negative Hex - Most the work I am doing at the moment is Sysex I was a little surprised that the app did not produce the negative (2's Compliment) values, it knows the 7bit maximum (4bytes=268435455) so why not just reduce it by the negative tick+1, therefore -20 = 268435436. Might be good idea for future release with little impact on existing code.

Wandering Exit Button:

Finally figured out how it wanders, quite often during a development session I will turn bluetooth off (saves battery and no surprises on the MIDI box), after doing this you are returned to the MDP homepage, where you then select Design, the exit button is then placed in the middle of the right hand page, whoops!. The normal position at the top is quite acceptable, however if was being really picky :-) maybe a little higher would be better.

Stubborn MDP Designer Logo:

Create new project OBP+MBT one page only (B1P1+B5P1).

Design Mode:

    Set background color  (brushed metal + 3), not sure if this is relevant.
    Delete MDP logos left and right.
    Create full page (B1P1+B5P1) multiline text label.

Save project

Load project: MDP logo reappears on right hand (B5P1) page.

Even if you change the logo to be less intrusive it will always reappear full/default size.

Separating the issues on the public forum does NOT make them easier to track. We're tracking bugs and prioritizing as fast as we can, but as you may have noticed, there's only ONE guy in all the videos (and doing most of the coding)... and responding to you here. I meant for me to track, I was never sure where any particular item was, as I now have had a number of responses regarding the issues I have a clearer picture of their status, I also thought it would be useful for the rest of the forum to see, as apposed to be buried (by me) in one thread which over time may get a bit long winded and difficult to follow.
