Any way to get patch name from synth via MD2 (sysex?)

Hi,  I've made a MidiDesigner 2 layout that simply increments/decrements bank and patch for whatever synth it is connected to.  I have a large number of hardware synths and it makes it easier to play any of them from a single central controller.  One thing I can't figure out is if there is any way to get the actual patch name (bank#/patch#/patch name) somehow to display in the midi designer window.  I'm hoping there may be some sort of sysex code that can do this but I'm not an expert with sysex.

My use-case is:

Route MD to a specific hw synth: Use MD +/- buttons to increment/decrement bank/patch on the hw synth <got all this working>

Query hw synth on bank/patch change to get patch name; display patch name in MD screen with bank/patch number.

Any pointers would be appreciated!

Hey there... there is no standard way using sysex to achieve this. Even if the synth has this implemented -- and most don't, from what I gather -- it would different from all other synths. So the question is if you know the patch names beforehand... if you do, you could use Named Ticks to show the patch name on the MD side. Does that help at all?
