Just started testing. Great to have quick access for editing the pwm. (Must have mod) Looking forward to an update. Would also be great to have implementation for the M-1024C to access the 16 banks within the environment.

Did this project ever get fully completed?

MIDI Target Manufacturer(s): Roland
I still only see voice parameters for Tone A and no Tone toggle switch as in the iPG-800, am I missing smth crucial? If so apologies! (I can’t test myself as I’m waiting for the PWM upgrade to arrive..) Love the x/y enabled layout, hope this template is still alive!

Hey there! I didn't really finish this back in the day, no - but I very probably will in the near future, as I have just ordered a more modern iPad (2021) a couple of days ago. For reference: the iPad this was created on by me, was from 2012!
So I will be able to work on this again, and I will probably create something for the JX-8P with Vecoven upgrade and for the Kiwi-30 (MKS-30) too, as I have acquired these as well.
That's awesome news Rainer! What a surreal timing after almost a decade since the last comment was made here! I will keep a keen eye on any developments, and of course be super happy (along surely many others) to put things through any needed debugging and testing whenever you find time to develop things further. I think the JX10 commnity has also grown over the past years so this most definitely should have a very solid user base!
The timing is absolutely surreal indeed - long live e-mail notifications :-)
I'm really looking forward to using MIDI Designer again. My old iPad screen partially failed after a replacement, and in the meantime, I didn't see any other uses to justify getting a new one .
Great that you are available for testing and other feedback! Watch this space :-)
Very much in the same situation, worked in MD intentsily for a specific performance setup in 2019, then used that template quite a lot but didn't have any reason to meddle with it further. Now I'm looking into making it into the editing centerpiece of my analog polysynth setup, the missing piece is how to create parallel streams of sysex and midi cc for the very same controls for various types of gear - I was hoping to be able not only to edit the sounds on synths like the JX or my MKS-80 etc, but also to succesfully record parameter automation into one's DAW of choice with the same controller (i.e. MD), having the synth listening to the recorded stuff as well tweaking MD in realtime. Logic can record NRPN, but it's stays uneditable, Ableton just filters it out mostly, Reaper I'm not sure actually. I've been looking at the Electra One controller for this purpose but it's currently outside my budget, and also yet another box, while my iPad is already integrated and Midi Designer is also more flexible and actually more of an instrument on top of that! :) MD's X/Y pads could be one way, Macro controllers maybe another, let's see!

Anyway I digress, to sum up, I'll for sure be watching this space! :-)
Quick update: I've been going through the template and have addressed several issues. When that is fully done, I'll work on getting Tone B in. It'll take some time still before I'm completely finished though. Is there an easy way to share layouts amongst members other than through this forum, so some of you could give it a whirl?
I'm also wondering: do you appreciate the current "theme" or would you prefer something else? Not that I want to get your expectations up too high though, it takes quite a lot of work to keep a layout consistent in it's design! :-)
Cheers, Rainer
Hey!

That sounds awesome and super promising!

Regarding sharing I don't think there is anyway to share stuff under the MIDI Designer umbrella other than here, which is also fine I think, even though I don't know if others have had an ongoing development and debugging as part of this comment section though.. :)
Other options would be to start a Telegram/signal group or similar so you get feedback within the same forum a bit less in the limelight

Regarding design/layout MIDI Designer was never a looker, it really is the Duplo in a world of Lego. With this said, what I have noticed is when people work with consistent background colours but with clearly coloured knobs it's actually easier on the eye.

Some designs are extremely ambitious ofc, like this one: https://mididesigner.com/qa/10120/layout-oxford-synthesiser-company-oscar-tauntek-mod which obviously involves some additional and pretty skilled graphics work, with which I for sure don't know how to make sure proper translation to various screen aspect ratios etc is kept in control, through app letter boxing?

But also this template https://mididesigner.com/qa/8032/layout-roland-mks-80?show=8032#q8032 shows how simply a dark background with only one "menu" color/style and again clearly coloured knobs and sliders goes a long way to look "finished" and still provides plenty of contrast and direction, which also in a way mimics the original MPG-800, which the iPG-800 iPad app also took after https://kengubler.ch/portfolio/ipg-800/

And this one shows that even without coloured background OR knobs, but just really clear grouping with proper space between controls, it's still super overviewable! https://mididesigner.com/qa/7951/layout-elektron-sidstation

What goes for all of them is that they revert to a 2-dimensional version of knobs and slider rather than ones with shadows and stuff, which also makes them less clunky, it takes less effort to read and looks cleaner.

Somewhat off topic, but the Electra One which is maybe a bit more limited in visual configurability out of the box but would be a reference in terms of function and audience works very much along the same logic, black background to maximise the impact of the colours of the controls, which are then grouped according to the builder's parameter grouping logic - done.

Either way this template will be such a great contribution to the MKS-70/JX-10 family, providing a fully fledged framework that doesn't break the bank! It should be promoted on all the relevant JX channels so people know there is now a very appealing route into controlling the v4 JX-10.

Kepp up the amazing work man, whenever you have smth I'll for sure be ready to test drive!
