"Send Test" Sends Incorrect Value for Prog Change/Bank Change etc. (Design Mode only) - MIDI Designer Q&A

Great find and report, thank you! This problem is only truly a problem with bank- and prog-change because the program change *is* the MIDI-max value. Perhaps send-test should send the MAX value (only)?

Sorry for the inconvenience, thanks again for the report, and happy New Year!
Forgot to mention: yes, it scales to the MIDI max value (and min) value, but it's basically sending 75% of the range (95 if 0-127). This'll be fixed for the next version, which we're still figuring out release date etc.
Wouldn't this be a problem with NRPN and Sysex as well? Basically anytime you want to send an exact value.

While I have you - can you please explain "Supercontrols send own values" in the Config/Options page? I think I might be able to use a bank change as a subcontrol but assign the program change to the supercontrol, as long as MD sends the subcontrol midi out before sending the supercontrol midi out.

I'm now able to send bankchange and progchange commands using the (as you referred to it and I agree) klunky method of creating two subs for each button. As I have nearly 100 buttons to do this way, I'm looking for shortcuts.   Thanks! Roy
1) It depends on the MIDI target, but yes: in fact, in MD buttons cannot send intermediate values (between on and off values) except in this weird case.
2) I'll answer in a separate question, unless I can find an already existing answer.
Here's a VERY short answer: http://mididesigner.com/help/supercontrols/ (see "send current value")
Here's a slightly more complete value. Please feel free to comment there so we can better that manual page. Thanks!

I was able to work around this problem in January and got my GR-55 live patch change thing working, but this week I wanted to add a dozen new buttons and got hung up again with my patch change bytes getting arbitrarily scaled.  Can you give me some idea when an update will fix this and add the ability to send bank+patch select?  Thx
Sorry, there are a few issues here. One is the send test not sending the correct MAX value, which is a small bug that can be fixed easily. We could give you access to a Version Next with this fixed quite soon. The other issue, needing a combined bank-prog change, is something we can do pretty soon.

Please get in touch directly via Config -> Actions -> Email Us and we'll discuss this ticket and move to next steps to get you up and running. Thanks!
Hello,
It's been a few months. I'm about to embark on a new MD project for my Strymon Mobius and I wanted to see if the bank/prog change situation has been fixed yet?

Thanks
Roy
Hi Roy,

In the production release of MIDI Designer, nothing has changed, but we're fast-tracking BANK-PROG change for the 2.0 release of MD. The release itself might not drop until Oct or Nov, but you could be working with this in a few days (like next Tues). If you're interested in testing, drop me an email via config -> actions -> email us and let's  discuss, please.

There are two things here: one is the Send Test sending the wrong value, which isn't an issue to fix, and the other is Bank+Prog change as one message type, which is mostly what I'm referring to, but both come under the 2.0 release.

Thanks!
Dan
Hi Dan,
Your note says "config - actions - email us" ..  Does that mean I need an email client on the iPad that's running MIDI Designer?  I don't have anything on that iPad but music apps.

Is there another way?
Roy
Sure thing, just drop me a mail to qa3718 [at] midiDesigner [dot] com. This ticket really inspired me and I actually have this feature ready for beta.

However: to get the TestFlight stuff working, you're going to need:
1) iOS 8
2) you might need an email client on that machine anyway (to get the TestFlight build)! Though web might work, too.

Thank you!
