Summary: This is a Platinum layout for MDP2. Platinum layouts represent thousands of hours of work and a great eye for aesthetics. If you inspect this layout in Design Mode, you'll see just how deep it goes. This layout comes from the need to control the Fantom XR, since the knobs on the device are nearly unworkable. This layout isn't just an amazing piece of software: it's also an uplifting human story about how to turn a problem -- controlling this gear -- into an amazing work of art. Huge congratulations to Elkbeat on this layout.
Be sure to check out the notes, and enjoy!
I'm a lucky owner of a Fantom XR module. I was really disappointed when I discovered that latest OSX sistems were no more supported by Roland Fantom X Editor.
The rack module display is very small and there is no way to manage all the tons of controls, this unit has, from such a poor number of knobs.
So here the MD template to manage Fantom X units from iPad.
I started working on it keeping inspiration from the app Yamaha provides for Motif products and the app coming with Roland Integra 7.
I think I got something which could be compared to these tools (and probably overcome them in some feautures).
I hope this tool could be useful for you to set the unit and help performing live with this awesome module.
Please keep in mind the following things:
-This template should work with alla Fantom x products but I tested it only on XR
-In order to use it you must set unit ID number to "17"
-In order to use it you must set "receive incoming sysex msg" to "On" in global settings
-This template uses massive SYSEX messaging, you should check your midi bus in order to be sure it manages Sysex in the right way.
Pay attention if you use the fantom XR rack module with a masterkeyboard.
Many keyboards are not able to manage sysex messages, so use a midi merger unit to link masterkeyboard and Ipad at the same time.
Please be advice that Ipad could not be linked to Fantom USB port, use an Ipad camera port connector with a usb to midi adapter instead.
I used Irig midi interface to link Ipad to midi-in of Fantom.
Please note template is based on a standard Fantom X module with SRX 7 expansion card.
If you have other SRX cards you must insert manually additional Patches in template selectors.
If you don't have a SRX 7 card, simply skip the Patches related to this card.
What is in the template...
The template covers two set of banks,
The first one is about Patch management and has 6 double pages:
-1 Patch selector arranged per Banks
-2 Patch selector arranged per Categories (cat 1 to 19)
-3 Patch selector arranged per Categories (cat 20 to 38)
-4 LFO 1 e 2 settings
-5 TVF-TVA settings
-6 MFX, Chorus and Reverb Routing plus Tone routing settings
The second one is about Performance management and has 3 double pages:
-1 Performance selector with detailed management (patch selector, send levels, key ranges and Midi Channel) for parts 1-8
-2 Performance selector with detailed management (patch selector, send levels, key ranges and Midi Channel) for parts 9-16
-3 performance MFX 1-2-3, Chorus and Reverb Routing plus Part send routing
I used the color scheme of Fantom: Red for Patch management and Yellow-Green for Performance managements.
What is not...
Please note that since there are too many Multi effect settings I didn't manage to include detailed settings for all 78 fx in Fantom.
They came with the default settings, the same for detailed settings of LFO, TVF and TVA.
I don't use rhythm kit so this feature is not covered from template...sorry!
Please test it and let me know about bugs.
If you improve it please share the improved template!!!!
MD Template file link is below in Downloads.
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
