Having trouble with MIDI Messages

Question

I downloaded the Lite version to see if I can get basic operation to function before I purchase the full version, I did your connection tutorial and everything seems to be good, except no messages are being transmitte to the laptop, in Snoize Midi Monitor I see the source, but no messages??  I open IOS MIDI Monitor app on the iPad and the messages come thru fine. I would get the IOS MIDI Touch, but it has such horrible reviews and hasn't been updated in a long time and doesn't seem to work with the current Apple OS.

I'm writing from my phone and will respond better later. Yes, the Lite version does everything the Pro version does. Here we're just diagnosing your connection. First question: when you spin a knob in MD, does it light up a red LED on top right. Second in config connections do you see a checkmark? Not sure about MIDI Touch... seems to work to a certain extent in my trials with it.

Offhand I'm guessing that you're simply not connected. Try connecting from your Mac to the iPad too. That checkmark must be there and stay there.

[at computer now] You say, "I open IOS MIDI Monitor app on the iPad and the messages come thru fine." Which messages, and through to where? First thing to try is messages from MIDI Designer TO your computer. Then we can talk about the other direction, too.

After setting the above I can then open the iPad IOSMIDI Monitor app, push any of the MIDI icons on the iPad and the SNOIZE Midi Monitor on the Laptop records the events sent from the iPad CC# and data.

Off hand I would say that I'm not connected but everything looks right according to your instructions and it actually works with another application, so I was wondering if there was some left elbow/function-command/delete mystery setting that I'm missing.

Hi, no there's no special secret handshake: this should work right from the get-go (and yes, I just tried it out with MIDI Designer Lite 1.3.8 [the version you have] to make sure I'm not going insane).

So we're back to normal diagnosing, but we will figure this out.

Please create a new Session under "My Sessions" under MIDI Network Setup on your Mac. Give it a special name, like, "What Is Broken?" CHANGE THE BONJOUR NAME TOO.

Do NOT connect the iTouch MIDI Monitor to it. Only connect MIDI Designer to it. In fact, close the MIDI Monitor app entirely (for now).

These steps, while arbitrary from a diagnostic point of view, might get us closer to understand what we're missing. This is truly weird but I believe we will track it down. Please note ANYTHING that is weird, like the Bonjour Name not showing up correctly on the iPad, etc.

There's a chance that your binary is broken in this one particular way, but the chances of that are about the same as the chances of somebody just randomly showing up at my door with the food I want to eat without me calling anyone. Oh wait, I hear a knock.

Yes! The Lite version is a fully-functioning MIDI controller. It's only functional limit is that you can only create 12 controls maximum.
