Can you overlay an xy pad on some keys and trigger both at the same time?

I also have thought about an approach where you use keyboard keys to control the notes and then overlay an XY pad to control synth parameters in the Y axis. Can you trigger both keyboard keys and an overlaid xy pad at the same time?

There are a lot of routes to explore for this question, including Extra CC & Hold and also the transpose function. Let me know if you need more help going down those roads, and please let us know what you find with any/all research.
