Hi and thanks for your question. The connection looks like it's in place. Create a NEW knob and move it. Do you see a red "LED" in the top right corner in MIDI Designer? Thanks.
Also, the ad-hoc network is in place of your regular wireless network. You should be able to connect your iPhone to your computer via your normal Wi-Fi connection. It's enough for the two devices to see each other. The ad-hoc connection isn't strictly necessary. It's just an option to keep in mind.
I do see the red light.
Do you see the "latency" box in the MIDI Network Setup box above? Does it show red lines when you move the knob?
No it doesn't
Do you know how to close all running apps on your iPad? Other MIDI apps or versions of MIDI Designer **may** interfere. Close all other apps. In addition, but NOT instead of this, you might try rebooting your iPhone. Try that first.

Also make sure your MIDI connection, iPhone MIDI, is shown and CHECKED in midi monitor.
You are a gentleman and a scholar.

TIME TO MAKE MUSIC AGAIN!!!!
Nice, glad to hear it. 1) do you know what worked, per chance? 2) if you feel so inclined, please review MD in the App Store.

Thanks and good luck with MIDI Designer.

Best,
Dan

P.S. Big pimpin'!
I closed the apps on my iPhone and restarted. I don't know which of the two worked and it's possible that another app was causing issues (it can also run MIDI).

I will most certainly leave a review. This software is excellent and I've only given myself a "basic" mixer so far. Looking forward to go deep.
Great. Please know that if you are using the Lite version that you'll hit a paywall quite early (5 controls). Then you have to unlock. If you have an iPad and think you'll want it there too, buy Pro instead, though unlocking is equivalent. Thanks!
I went Pro right off the bat...seemed like a no brainer to me!!
Let's hope everyone feels that way ;)
