"Button off sets this to default" Can't get this right

Question

I inserted a mute button to control a volume knob (inverted: button on = volume 0). Turning off the mute button should reset the volume button to default value (as I understand). Instead the knob turns to max value 127. In the knob control midi submenu I changed default value to 100. What goed wrong?

My first guess is that you've made the button a supercontrol of the knob. This is not correct. Just make a new knob, a new button, and set the Button-Off-Etc value of the knob to be the button. This will show you how it works. Please let me know if this helps or if we need to go another round. Thanks!
