MIDI Target Manufacturer(s): Behringer
The Behringer UB-Xa is a brilliant clone of the Oberheim OB-8. The front panel of the synth adjusts the main parameters but there is still a substantial amount of functionality hidden within the menus. I hate menu's. I mean, I get why we need them, but when you have a well implemented midi interface and a really cool program like Midi Designer, who needs menus!
I created this layout as a companion to the UB-Xa front panel. It really cant be used on its own. This panel simply takes many of the hidden menu functions and puts them into a nice big panel. It makes sound design so much more intuitive.
Atrophy
Behringer added a bunch of settings that let you change the “age” of the synth (atrophy). Some of these add random/chaos to the oscillators or modify the linearity of envelope curves. Please note that to adjust any atrophy settings, you must enable the ‘Allow Edit of Atrophy settings’. I have added a button on the panel to quickly enable/disable this.
Behringer are without a doubt the WORST at manual creation. To make the synths cheap they obviously fired most of the writing staff. Some of the functions on this panel have virtually no deep descriptions in the manual. You my have to search Gearslutz for a deep dive into some of the Atrophy settings (you can also try Reddit if you’re really desperate, but I wouldn’t recommend it without pain killers.)
