…not the sexiest or fanciest layout but it is built to be useful on stage.
I built this layout having in mind that:
- Stage lighting, for musicians is frequently deficient, hence having to easily see controls on iPad.
- Once the sound tests have been completed, I’m not supposed to have to modify any sound related parameters.
- While performing, I mainly have to control presets on different gears.
That is why I use plain black background pages and Glow mode for controls.
- Left pages:
- Basically used while performing sound tests
- Group basic controls for gears used during sound tests before live show. Note that there are many MD layouts created by other MD users that cover many more, if not all, controls for any of gears I use.
- Honestly, I rely on native GUI for three of my gears:
- Rig Manager for Kemper
- GR55 Floorboard application for GR55
- Deepmind12 Configuration application.
- As for NOVA System, there is no native application provided by TC Electronic.
- Right page:
- Used 100% of the time during live performance.
- Four (4) picker control to select presets for each gear to match what I want for each songs.
- Only exception is copied “Transpose” control for GR55 in case of “special request” for a song that has to use transposed tuning.
- I also keep DEEPMIND 12D page on the left side to be able:
- To mute Deepmind 12D when using Godin guitar through GR55 that sends MIDI performance to Deepmind 12D synth. GR55 MIDI Out is connected to Deepmind 12D MIDI In using MIDI multiplexer so I can use my guitar as MIDI controller and send PC/CC messages from MIDIDESIGNER. Because I don’t always want Godin guitar performance to trigger Deepmind 12D while using GR55, I have to “mute” Deepmind 12D synth
- PANIC button: Because, sometimes glitch between keyboards and Deepmind 12D can cause unexpected behavior (like stuck note). Using Panic button clears all messages sent to Deepmind 12D.
