Help with SysEx Strings

Question

I'm wondering whether I can use the SysEx String facility to receive and display my scribble strip text for my MCU Layout, as per jkhiser's 'Two SysEx String hacks'.

To give myself a start I created a picker, but it only seems to transmit the first character of my tick names. Clearly I'm a long way from being able to get to where I want to be, but to be stuck at the first hurdle is a bit daunting.

Any help to get me started gratefully received.

(I'm using my JT-4000 Layout as a working example. Here you can see my picker, its SysEx definition and the resulting log output.)

I am happy to see someone working with SysEx strings.

Under variable options, you need to choose the length of the SysEx string.  Default is one, which is why you are only getting one character.

But, there is a bug in the SysEx properties box -Problems with SysEx Property Boxes (all OS).  S (and or V) might disappear when you save, or the variable options box comes up blank.  Best workaround I have found is to select a checksum, make changes in the variable options box, then put the checksum option back to NONE.

Thank you! That's got me on my way. I didn't encounter any bug with this.

Now I intend to see if I can work out how to populate scribble strips.

Ultimately I am also curious to try out your ideas for retrieving and re-naming presets, but one step at a time...
