So mpc60 and mpc3000 don't have the track mute page, introduced from mpc2000.
This to me is a big limitation, to (partially) avoid this i study and find that there are some Sysex command line you can send and the machine is able to change volume for pad (basically is the mixer page).
With the magic of midi designer i recreate a classic 4x4 16 pad layout in which every pad toggle on/off the volume of the first 16 pads in Bank A (only at the moment) and to do this you can touch directly the screen of you iphone/ipad, OR, and here is what is more fun, using bank pad B to mute the relative sound in bank pad A (so a1 on bank B will mute a1 of bank A)
to do this you need an in/out midi cable connected to your iphone and your mpc60/3000. to make thing better i used a bluetooth yamaha adapter called Yamaha MD-BT01, so i can use my mobile, as in video, without any cable.
i hope u understand and sorry for my bad explanation, following a video soon that hopefully can help a bit more, for the moment you can check this
about people used to design i used a pad to send sysex toggle on off and another pad connect that receive midi not on off and subcontrol the previous pad, so u can customize this basically as you prefer
