Hey guys!

So thanks to the awesome layouts that Rainer K made, I was really inspired to build one specifically for the JX-8P. 

The foundation of my design is based on Patch development and Live performance (or just jamming at home). I made sure all aspects of the PG-800 were considered, but I did not let its layout restrict me. I also made sure to include "Unison Detune" and "Bend LFO Depth" which are not found on the PG-800 and are extremely useful parameters. 

IMPORTANT! POSSIBLE BUG THAT CAN AFFECT PARAMETERS:

Make sure that the option in the red square is turned on :)

I did my best to test every parameter/control, but PLEASE let me know if you find any bugs! I will update them ASAP.

Otherwise, enjoy! It really brought a beast out of my JX-8P that you all know is begging to be let out!!

changelog:

May 5, 2014:

- made the default patch have only DCO1 level up; seems more "basic"

- changed "default" button to the button type instead of just using a preset

     - this frees up that preset slot / avoids accidental breakage

- fixed "unison detune" default parameter. with previous default value, it made the jx8p by default have voices that were up to a .5 semitone off....sorry about that  ;)

-minor bug fixes...i forget what they were but they're fixed

-Added "Xtra" panel, which includes Bend range, bend lfo depth, aftertouch, assign, and portamento time & on/off. 

-Also includes bigger buttons for LOCAL ON and DEFAULT (patch 20)

-Moved MIDI designer channel selector to "Xtra" page, included new paramters on it

-Minor changes to the "Live" page layout

-Added support for named ticks on "Patch" panel, particulary on DCO ranges and the envelope modes.

-Changed max / min values on DCO SEMI tuning as well as the HPF to make sense compared to actual parameters being changed

-Important knobs on last page are now "hidden" during performance.

-added "LOCAL ON" toggle button for local keyboard midi. lit = keyboard triggers synth (and sends midi out), unlit = only midi sent out. good for using jx8p as master keyboard

-on "Patch" panel, swapped the "BEND LFO DEPTH" slider for "VCA LVL"

-updated Preset 20 to reflect new DEFAULT (the inclusion of LOCAL ON)

-added 1 octave of keys that are used to hold notes, good for drones. starts at c4...will add octave up/down functionality if it becomes available on MD

Thanks! I wouldn't mind at all if you moved it to a safe place on the MIDI Designer servers...I would actually prefer it. I couldn't find (or figure out) how to upload the file as an attachment, so I just posted that link.

Do whatever you need to do. Just note that I did make a few small changes a couple of hours after I uploaded it, so you might want to download it again. The posted link is correctly associated with most recent version.

Might I suggest adding a slider to set the MIDI sysex channel?

i would love to be able to add that feature, but as it is right now the midi channel is actually part of the code for each individual knob...i made this prior to the last update so i'm not sure if i can change it. if there is a way to use variables as part of the sysex code and then assign a slider to that variable, i will definitely make that available.

ah, i see that. i was just tweaking with it, and it is definitely possible. it will just take a bit of time to go back and rework it (it works like i thought it would in my first comment)

yep, i used the channel changer feature to integrate with the
ysEx and make it easy to change what channel it's sending SysEx data too...works great! especially considering some JX-8P edit sliders are touchy and it may be hard to get to a specific channel
