Device : Behringer DeepMind 12D (DM12D) analog synthesizer (desktop version).
Note that this layout can also be used on any DeepMind format (desktop or keyboard)

I bought this device to complete my keyboard setup.
I use two(2) Roland® A800 PRO as MIDI controllers.
On is connected to MainStage, the other one is connected to DM12D.
First thing I noticed, most MIDI commands are NRPN based, with step range covering 256 steps (0-255).
On A800 PRO, you can program physical controls to send NRPN commands by range is limited to 128 steps (0-127).
On iPad, you can use DM12D native application but it is mainly useful for initial programing, not “live situation”. Some menus are hidden behind others and you have to click on one to access the other. No very useful in live situation.
So I decided to build basic MIDI Designer (MD) layout that I can use to alter, « on the spot », some parameters without having to use DM12 native application. Note that I’m covering most accessed commands for live performance, others being « very rarely » altered values (ex: effects) during performance.
One cool thing about this is that I can use Wi-Fi MIDI to establish connectivity between MD and DM12D. To allow MD to connect, initial connection must be established between DM12 native application and the device. I tried without success to connect MD directly to DM12D without using DM12 application as gateway
Steps:
- Start DM12D
- Using GLOBAL menu setup, activate your DM12D as a Wi-Fi access point (not client).
- For more details regarding detailed steps, refer to DM12 User Manual.
- On your iPad, start DM12 native application
- Go to “settings” and activate Wi-Fi MIDI
- Once Wi-Fi MIDI is active, open MD and verify that connectivity is set.
- Use MD as usual.
