We're ecstatic to have these Line 6 layouts for guitarists. This entry includes two layouts by Master Designer François Desnoyers: one that "covers all controls defined in LINE6 official documentation for POD HD500 (Firmware version 2.62.)" And another "covering POD HD500 and GR55 MIDI controls in LIVE situation." These layouts get a lot of love from MIDI Designer users, and they look good and make a guitar rig hum. Check the notes for another layout that covers the DT50 amp, also by Line 6.
This layout is built to control LINE6 POD HD500 using firmware version 2.62. With this firmware release, you have access to more controls via MIDI CC.
- Note: I'm using HD500 in conjunction with DT50 amplifier.
SETLIST Selectors
You'll find 8 setlist selectors with 64 presets for each setlist. To modify setlist presets, simply modify layout and enter any label value corresponding to preset position (note that you need extra feature pack to have access to PICKER type control...)
EXP1 and EXP2 controls
EXP1 and EXP2 rotary controls will allow user to set value to assigned controls (see picture below).
In my setup, I use EXP1 (onboard expression pedal) to control effects parameters (e.g.: delay mix). If expression pedal is used to bring instant MIX delta in my delay, I'll use onboard pedal. Most of the time, I use this MIX variation to have more/less delay depending of band global gig volume, in this case I prefer to use rotary control on my iPad as it is more accurate than setting value with my food using onboard expression pedal.
EXP2 is mostly used for volume control in "post" position but I can use layout rotary control to lower global volume in case amp volume is too loud. You can also use EXP2 ton control any effect parameter other than volume. That's the beauty of the POD, you can do anything you want and control as many effects as required with EXP pedals.
LOOPER
LOOPER section simply works as designed. The beauty of using MD to use HD500 looper is that you don't have to switch to LOOPER Display mode to use it. Simply press any action button to play/stop/play once recorded track. If you replay need to show LOOPER MENU on HD500 display, simply press "Looper MENU" button.
Defined but not really useful...
FS1 to FS8 and expression TOE SWITCH have been included in layout but since it is ( for now) impossible to "read" actual FS switch state from HD500, user can't rely on layout FS button status (ON/OFF) to accurately know what is active or not on HD500 pedalboard.
Honestly, I rarely use these controls, I rely on POD HD footswitch.
Tap Tempo
For Tap tempo, you'll find two (2) buttons.
- First one (TAP Tempo) is used when you need to set "slow" tempo. Simply click on button at the desired speed.
- When "fast" tempo is required you can use following methods (I highly recommend the second one
)- Drink 10 cups of expresso and TAP quickly on TAP TEMPO button.
- Click on "Speedy Tempo" button that will double the actual click speed.
Feel free to change control position, labels or color.
Note: I use "GLOW" display because it is easier to view on stage but you can change display mode to "normal" if you don't like "fluo" colors
.
DT50 amp layout.
In case you want to control DT50 amp without using POD HD500, you can go to this page to load DT50 MD Layout.
