Hi there,

I just got my hands on a TX-7 and got this layout setup..  is there a way I can send notes to the synth to see if the changes are taking?  Unlike the DX-7 this one has no keyboard to test with and the MIDI in / out is occupied by the ipad

Also this particular unit came somewhat blanked out (dumped all the original presets) so I'm looking to find a way to restore those sound, but this might require someone with first hand TX-7 experience.

I am working on something. Coming soon.
awesome!  yea even some kind of simple "send middle C note" button would perhaps cool?

Also if possible, it would be uber-rad to have a random function.. that just scrambles all the parameters...

I'm still not comfortable with FM synthesis yet, but maybe even a random only for each page to allow more controlled random parameter generation.  I'll be waiting patiently :)   thanks!
Here it is. You have a small keyboard now with a few octaves.

As for the random function. Admin will have to chime in. I don't know if it's possible.
very cool!   it does talk to it and i hear notes..   now to figure out how to hell to program a dx synth.. lol..  :)    this however is a great relief to see it is able to talk to it and now with the keyboard option i can tweak and play from iPad a MUST for The TX-7  you rock!

Yea seems like random would be a fantastic option to add to MD as a whole if it's not already possible..  check out CZ Touch for an example of the awesome potential
(jump to 0:28 to get to the point) sure sometimes a random patch might be unusable but it saves a lot of time to get an idea just going..
Do you know about this book? This book will give you a better insight in the DX7/TX7.

Have fun with the layout.
No I did not! :)  That's awesome.  This book will be helpful.

I just figured out how to save patches on the TX-7..  and I went ahead and took the plunge and got basic Midi Quest which has a LOT of random patches you can pull from the internet which is pretty brilliant if a bit overwhelming..   so my once blanked out TX7 now has some patches in it..

Is Midi Designer able to save patches into a device or are the simply saved on the iPad itself?  It seems to me that it's the latter right?
Midi Designer cannonly save patches into a device if the device offers a sysex command for storing patches. Otherwise, you can store your settings in MD as presets in MD.

And admin can correct me, if I interpret this wrong, but take note that if you store them as presets in MD every MD component needs to be used at least once otherwise you will have a mismatch with your TX7 patch when you load such an MD preset (the unused MD component won't match the corresponding TX7 component)
I'm not sure how I'd know if a device supports it or not, but I would assume the layout itself would need to include the save / load functionality anyway which isn't in any of the layouts I have seen so far.

Regardless it seems like it would be easy enough to simply save the patch locally..  whatever the synths current settings are.

I was not sure how to save a patch on the TX7 and wasn't 100% it was possible since it was intended to be edited by an DX7.  So now that I know how too do it locally it wouldn't be hard to manage a newly created patch on this by saving it from the synth itself.
